Thanks for joining me!
Why am I here?
I am a friend, professional, wife, world traveler, twin-mom, wild child, country-girl-at-heart and many other things. No single label defines me and none of my worlds exist without the gravity of the others. As women we swim from one realm to another, balancing more responsibilities and with more skill than space on a typical resume allows. I am here to live, laugh, call it like it is and connect with other bad-ass women.
Why MerWoman?
I am writing from the coastal oasis of Santa Barbara, for which I count my blessings daily. I have always had an affinity for the elusive and mythical mermaid. She is beautiful, mysterious, untamed and a legend with a somewhat dubious past. Personally, the mermaid signifies a reminder to go with the flow rather than my inherent tendency to attempt to orchestrate just about everything (just ask my husband). She reminds me that with faith, effort, luck and a dash of humor happiness self-manifests.
Unlike the mythical mermaid I am a flesh and blood woman. In fact, I am no “maid” at all. A quick Google search identifies a Maid as:
- A female domestic servant
- A girl or young woman, especially an unmarried one
- A virgin
Although I am many things, I am none of these. I am so much more. I am a real woman, swimming upstream.
This is a lifestyle blog for women and those who love us navigating this often beautiful, sometimes tricky and occasionally infuriating culture that we live in today. I hope the thoughts shared here resonate with a few fellow kindred MerWomen. I’ll leave the fashion and makeup blogs to the experts.

I must be a mermaid, I have no fear of depths, and a great fear of shallow living— Anais Nin
